The Deeper Threads Underlying Cultural Appropriation
I practice a modern, Pagan spirituality, and I’m very concerned about the harm that ideas around appropriation are causing to those who also practice.
In all the concern about appropriation in Paganism nowadays, it makes me wonder if anyone has stopped to think about how Spirit manifests all things on earth for the sake of enriching all Beings, especially those of us who have been given the great responsibility of conscious awareness. It sometimes looks to me that all our bickering causes us to be blind to deeper threads that run through all of our battles with one another, and with “the system”.

Whether we know it, or not, while we occupy these Earth Suits, we’re truly all one race, the race of humans … a common collective in the “eyes” of Spirit. However, we are also individual souls as well… nature loves a good paradox.
There’s no excuse for humans to abuse one another, a lesson we must learn through our slow evolution. But, when it comes to the idea of appropriation, we can’t stop there. The issue has come about because there are deeper layers of truth to it than what we are dredging up at this moment in time. We should all keep this in mind.
